Facial Liposuction

Dr. Denton – Facial Liposuction in Vancouver

The natural balance between facial features – including the neck, chin and jawline – add beauty and definition to an individual’s appearance.

Facial Liposuction Can Restore the Natural Balance Of Facial Features

Isolated deposits of facial, cheek and neck fat may be present in individuals who are otherwise fit and healthy. Localized areas of fat may also run in families and are commonly seen in the neck, chin and jawline or jowl areas. If you are one of these people, you should look into facial liposuction to improve the natural balance of your facial features.

Modern Facial Liposuction Techniques

Modern techniques of facial liposuction utilize mini and microcannulas (very small suction tubes) to safely and dependably remove unwanted fat from these areas resulting in an improved facial contour. At the same time, this facial liposuction procedure will allow for a relatively speedy recovery.

Liposuction techniques

The tumescent technique for local anesthesia has revolutionized liposuction by eliminating both the risks of general anesthesia and the bleeding once associated with liposuction surgery.

Candidates for facial liposuction

Individuals in good general health with areas of excess fat that do not respond to diet and exercise are excellent candidates for facial liposuction.

Preparing for surgery

On the night before your surgery, we ask that you not have anything to eat or drink (including coffee, tea and juice) after 12:00 am. This allows your stomach to empty thereby minimizing any postoperative nausea.

Two weeks prior to your surgery, all blood thinning medications and supplements (e.g. aspirin, ibuprofen, ginko, ginseng and vitamin E) must be stopped. This reduces the amount of bruising and swelling experienced postoperatively. A prescription for antibiotics and pain medication will be provided.

A simple blood test to measure your hemoglobin level is performed prior to surgery and if you are over 50 years of age.  An electrocardiogram is required for your safety as well if you are over 60 years of age.

Your surgery

Surgery is performed in our fully accredited operating room under twilight anesthesia.  After surgery, patients are taken to our specially equipped recovery area. Once recovered, all patients proceed home accompanied by a responsible adult or to an after care facility.

Follow-up

A compression garment is placed over the treated areas to speed healing and to reduce swelling. This is removed on the following day in the doctor’s office.  A lighter compression garment is then kept in place 24 hours a day for the first 7 days. The garment is machine washable and may be cleaned as necessary. Skin sutures are removed in 1 week.

Resuming normal activities

Bending, heavy lifting and straining are prohibited during the first two weeks. Light non-cardiac exercise can be resumed after one week and increased over the ensuing 7 days.  Most patients are permitted to shower on the day following surgery.

Swelling and bruising in normal after surgery and usually resolves over 10 to 14 days.  As with all facial plastic and cosmetic surgery, final results are achieved after 6 to 12 months.

Severe pain following liposuction is unusual but pain medication will be prescribed and should be taken if necessary. Most patients are back at work within 3 to 7 days.
