Forehead lift surgery repositions the eyebrows to a more youthful and open position, reversing many of the changes that can occur as a result of aging. These changes can make the upper third of the face and eye area appear tired, sad, or angry. As a board-certified facial plastic surgeon in Vancouver, Dr. Denton has extensive experience and expertise in forehead lifts and helping rejuvenate his patient’s appearance.
Why Consider a Forehead Lift
The first signs of aging often appear in the forehead area due to the loss of collagen and skin elasticity between the ages of 40 to 60. Exposure to the environment, our lifestyle choices, genetics, and, of course, gravity, can all affect our face. The results of aging are visible in the form of frown lines, wrinkling across the forehead, drooping eyebrows which create a tired, angry, or sad look that many individuals prefer to change since it may not reflect how they feel.
What Does a Forehead Lift Involve?
A forehead lift is often combined with eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) if individuals have droopy eyebrows and excess skin and fat in their eyelids. This combination of surgical procedures will return the eyebrows to a more youthful position, and eliminate droopy, heavy upper eyelids, and puffy lower eyelids with wrinkled skin leaving you with a more alert and rested appearance.
What You Should Expect After Your Forehead Lift
After your forehead lift, a snug compression dressing is applied to help minimize bruising and swelling. This will be removed on the first day following surgery in the doctor’s office. If a drain was placed during surgery, it will usually be removed on the first postoperative day. Stitches and surgical clips are removed over the following 10 to 14 days. Light non-cardiac exercise can be resumed two weeks following surgery and slowly increased over the next seven days.
Normally, there is minimal pain following surgery but there is the possibility that you may experience a dull headache. You should not hesitate to take the prescribed pain medications if needed. Most forehead lift patients are able to return to work one to two weeks after their surgery.
Fortunately, serious complications following forehead lift surgery are uncommon, however, risks would include bleeding, infection, change of hairline position, numbness of the skin, and weakness of muscles.
