Browlift Surgery

Dr. Denton – Browlift Surgery in Vancouver

Predictable changes occur in the forehead and eyebrow areas with age. As a result of these changes, the upper third of the face and eye area may appear tired, sad or angry.

Browlift surgery and other cosmetic surgical procedures that can help with these issues are:

  • Forehead lift surgery to help reduce wrinkles
  • Forehead lift surgery to reduce frown lines above the nose and between the eyebrows
  • Browlift surgery to minimize drooping eyebrows – centrally or laterally toward the temple area
  • Browlift surgery for lateral eyelid “hooding” removal (curtain like skin at the outer edge of the upper eyelid) and excess upper eyelid skin removal

Why Undergo Browlift Surgery in Vancouver

During browlift surgery and forehead lift cosmetic surgery, the eyebrows are returned to a more youthful position leaving a more alert and rested appearance. Prominent wrinkles in the forehead and between the eyebrows are softened or eliminated. As a board certified facial plastic surgeon in Vancouver, Dr. Denton has extensive experience and expertise in forehead lift and browlift surgery. During your consultation, you will have the opportunity to discuss your cosmetic treatment options with Dr. Denton in a confidential and unhurried setting. Computer imaging will also be conducted to demonstrate to you the expected result following your browlift surgery or forehead lift procedure. Surgery is performed in Dr. Denton’s fully accredited private operating facility in Vancouver, British Columbia.

Browlift Surgery Technique

Like facelift surgery, browlift surgery techniques have evolved significantly over the past decade. Previously, browlifting required large scalp incisions and lengthy healing periods. Modern methods utilize endoscopic telescopes that minimize incisions and recovery time.

Candidates for browlift surgery

Browlifting works by smoothing the forehead skin and returning the eyebrows to a more youthful and rested position. Individuals with drooping eyebrows, heavy upper eyelids and prominent horizontal and vertical forehead wrinkles may all benefit from browlift surgical procedures.

Preparing for surgery

On the night before your surgery, we ask that you not have anything to eat or drink (including coffee, tea and juice) after 12:00 am. This allows your stomach to empty thereby minimizing any postoperative nausea.

Two weeks prior to your surgery all blood thinning medications and supplements (e.g. aspirin, ibuprofen, ginko, ginseng and vitamin E) must be stopped. This reduces the amount of swelling experienced postoperatively. A prescription for antibiotics and pain medication will be provided to you.

A simple blood test to measure your hemoglobin level is performed prior to surgery if you are over 50 years of age. An electrocardiogram is required for your safety if you are over 60 years of age.

Your surgery

Surgery is performed in our fully accredited operating room under twilight anesthesia. After surgery, patients are taken to our specially equipped recovery area. Once recovered, all patients proceed home accompanied by a responsible adult or to an aftercare facility.

Follow-up

A snug compression dressing is applied following surgery to help minimize bruising and swelling. This will be removed on the first day following surgery in the doctor’s office. If a drain was placed during surgery, it will usually be removed on the first postoperative day. Stitches and surgical clips are removed over the following 10 to 14 days.

Resuming normal activities

During the 24 hours immediately following surgery, you should rest quietly with your head elevated on two pillows. You may get up to eat and to use the bathroom but, at this stage, rest will help most to speed recovery.

Patients are permitted to shower and gently wash their hair 3 days after surgery.

Bending, lifting and straining are prohibited during the first two weeks. Light non-cardiac exercise can be resumed two weeks following surgery and slowly increased over the next seven days.

Typically there is very little pain following browlift surgery but a dull headache is not uncommon. You should not hesitate to take the prescribed pain medications if needed.

Most browlift patients are back at work 7 to 10 days after their surgery.

Costs of browlift surgery

Following your consultation, a quote is given which is good for one year. Our quotes include all costs: pre-operative tests, anesthesia, facility charges, the services of our staff, and applicable taxes. You are encouraged to make cost comparisons. In comparing, be sure you determine the total of all costs related to the surgery.

A deposit is required at the time the surgery is scheduled in order to hold a specific date for you. The balance is due four to five weeks prior to your surgery. For your convenience, we accept American Express, MasterCard, VISA and debit cards.

We have arranged a financing plan for our patients with an outside financial institution. Ask our patient care coordinators for details about how to qualify.

Alternatives to browlift surgery

Not all forehead wrinkles require surgical correction.  When injected into deep skin folds, soft-tissue fillers such as Juvederm™ are helpful. Finally, fine lines and wrinkles may respond well to a variety of skin resurfacing techniques such as laser and chemical peels. Often blepharoplasty, or eyelid lift surgery, is combined with browlift surgery with excellent synergistic results.
