Facial liposuction has become one of the most popular cosmetic surgical procedures because when it is performed properly it adds beauty and definition to your face and neck. It’s important to have a natural balance between facial features such as the neck, chin and your jawline. Unfortunately, as we age, we can develop fatty deposits in the face, under the chin and in the neck despite being fit and healthy.
How Facial Liposuction Can Help You
Facial fatty deposits affect both men and women but fortunately, with facial liposuction, you can return to a more youthful appearance by reducing and reshaping areas of localized fat. Significant improvements are achievable in most cases.
Patients usually ask us what will happen if they gain weight after liposuction. We inform them that since we can’t remove all the fatty tissue due to aesthetic reasons, the new fat from their weight gain will be deposited in the remaining fatty tissue. However, facial liposuction can be repeated if necessary.
Who’s a Good Candidate for Facial Liposuction?
If you are uncomfortable with the fat deposits in your cheeks, jawline and neck area and are in good health, this procedure could be right for you. When facial liposuction is performed on younger patients with good skin tone, the results can be impressive. Older patients with decreased skin elasticity may not experience the same level of results. In such cases, facial liposuction can be combined with other facial surgical procedures like a with a facelift, necklift, browlift or eyelid lift.
In addition, for some individuals in order to achieve the desired symmetry and facial contour, it may advisable to combine liposuction with chin implants and/or neck muscle tightening.
A final determination of patient eligibility is made during the consultation with Dr. Denton.
How Facial Liposuction is Performed
Dr. Denton uses the tumescent technique for local anesthesia combined with procedural sedation for this procedure. Mini and micro-cannulas (very small suction tubes) are used to safely and dependably remove unwanted fat from the treated areas resulting in an improved contour. Patients generally require one week of downtime, however, final results may not be achieved for up to one year.
Dr. Denton makes short incisions behind the ears and within the natural crease just under the chin which do not leave noticeable scarring. Then he uses the small suction tubes to remove excess fat cells in a precise pattern with delicate suction. His aim is to recontour the neck and reduce the double chin. The procedure typically takes about 60 minutes.
Surgery is performed in our Vancouver at our fully accredited operating facility under procedural sedation. After surgery, patients are taken to the recovery area. Once recovered, all patients proceed home accompanied by a responsible adult or to an aftercare facility.
Considering Facial Liposuction?
If you are considering this procedure, you should consult an experienced and qualified facial plastic surgeon. Your surgeon should discuss the benefits and any considerations which are related to your unique situation, needs and expectations. You should be treated as an equal member of the decision-making team because informed patients make good decisions.
At Dr. Denton’s Vancouver non-hospital cosmetic and facial plastic surgery clinic, computer imaging is used to assist both patient and surgeon in making the best possible decisions. Your high-resolution digital photograph created on the clinic’s imaging computer, allows you to preview the changes that can be anticipated following your facial liposuction.
